🍪 Why I Started a Micro Bakery
For me, baking has always been more than measuring flour or creaming butter, it’s how I show love. It’s how I connect with people.
I’ve spent years behind the camera, capturing celebrations, emotions, and love stories as a photographer. But during my slower season, I found myself back in the kitchen, baking for my kids, friends, and neighbors - a creative outlet that felt just as fulfilling as photography, but in a completely different way.
That’s how Sage & Sweet Co. began: from a place of creativity and community. It’s my way of sharing joy through simple, heartfelt treats. I bake small batches so every cookie gets attention, intention, and care - no rush, no shortcuts, just that made-by-hand touch that feels personal.
The idea of a micro bakery fit me perfectly. It’s intimate and intentional, not a storefront or a big production, but a cozy home-based bake that connects directly with the people around me. It’s the modern version of the neighbor who always had something fresh cooling on the counter.
This little bakery is my bridge between art and warmth: the same creativity I use to tell stories through photos, now told through flavor, texture, and nostalgia. And honestly? I’ve never been happier to share that story one cookie at a time.
🏡 What is a Micro Bakery (and Why They’re Having a Moment)
Micro bakeries are small, homegrown operations, usually run by one person or a small team - focused on crafting quality over quantity. They’re not about mass production or endless menu options. Instead, they’re about careful craft, local connection, and the joy of sharing something handmade.
Unlike large commercial bakeries, micro bakeries typically bake in small batches (sometimes just a few dozen cookies or loaves a day). Ingredients are often locally sourced, recipes are tested and loved, and each product carries a little piece of the baker’s personality.
Historically, micro bakeries are nothing new - they’re a return to how baking used to be. Think of the small village baker who knew everyone’s names, who baked daily bread for the neighborhood, or who set out a few sweets by the window for passing friends.
In recent years, micro bakeries have found new life, especially as more people rediscover home baking and want to support local makers. They’re popping up in communities everywhere, bringing connection and nostalgia to something as simple as a cookie.
At Sage & Sweet Co., I love being part of that movement. It’s not about volume, it’s about intention. It’s about creating bakes that feel personal, baked fresh for neighbors and friends, with that comforting “from my home to yours” feeling baked right in.
